New Votoms Manga to be Previewed in Japan on March 19

First manga for gritty "real robot" anime pioneer in 25 years

The editors of Akita Shoten's Champion RED Ichigo magazine have announced that they will preview a serialized manga of the Armored Trooper Votoms robot anime series in the May issue, which goes on sale on March 19. This will be the first time that a magazine has serialized Votoms manga since Akita Shoten's TV Anime Magazine and Kodansha's Comic BomBom magazine (both defunct) did so 25 years ago. Artist Mugita Sugimura (Kirie: Kyūketsu Seijo, Akihabara Muhōgai: Gun Maid) will draw the manga. The Sunrise Studio is currently animating a new, 12-episode Armored Trooper Votoms: Pailsen Files video series.

The original anime from Sunrise was one of the first "real robot" series, which portrayed war in a relatively gritty manner compared to previous robot anime series. It follows Chirico Cuvie, a soldier caught in decades-long mechanized war. Writer Tim Eldred separately created Armored Trooper Votoms: Supreme Survivor, CPM's comic adaptation of Armored Trooper Votoms: Red Shoulder Document - Roots of Treachery video. CPM also released the first anime series in North America.
