Anime News Network Streams Kite: Liberator

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
First streaming anime for Anime News Network

Anime News Network (ANN) has launched its streaming anime service today with Kite: Liberator. The animated video, which was released in Japan of March of this year and is available on DVD from Media Blasters, is available on Anime News Network in two formats: English audio and Japanese audio with English subtitles.

The stream is free to view and ad-supported. A higher quality version is available to the website's subscribers. ANN's license to stream Kite: Liberator was acquired from North American anime distributor Media Blasters, and therefore ANN is only able to make the video available to North American viewers.

Anime News Network launched its streaming video platform in the summer of 2008 with self-produced editorial content, under the ANNtv label, and streaming trailers. The site's video library now contains almost 400 streaming trailers and 32 episodes of ANNtv.

Kite: Liberator is the follow-up to the 1998 OAV Kite, which is also available on DVD from Media Blasters. The South African movie company Distant Horizon is reportedly working on a live-action adaptation of Kite, although no release date has been announced.
