Japanese Box Office, December 13-14

Major: Yūjō no Winning Shot, Takao Kato's first anime film based on Takuya Mitsuda's baseball manga, debuted at #2 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's Japanese box office chart during the December 13-14 weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, it earned the equivalent of US$1,646,757 on 311 screens. Neck-and-neck with Major was #3's Bleach: Fade to Black - Kimi no Na o Yobu, the third anime film inspired by Tite Kubo's manga. It opened with US$1,679,634 on 239 screens. (Box Office Mojo lists the Bleach film as #2 instead of #3.)

Tokumei Kakarichō Tadano Hitoshi: Saigo no Gekijō-ban (Special Mission Section Chief Hitoshi Tadano: The Final Film) dropped from #5 to #7 in its second weekend. This film is based on the live-action television adaptation of Kimio Yanagisawa's salaryman action manga. It added US$634,349 on 267 screens to its US$2,462,543 gross-to-date.

Yes! Precure 5 GoGo! Okashi no Kuni no Happy Birthday, the theatrical spinoff from the ongoing Yes! Precure 5 GoGo! television series, dropped from #8 to #10 in its sixth weekend. The movie is the fifth theatrical release from the Precure or Pretty Cure magical girl anime franchise. It made the equivalent of US$289,244 on 139 screens to add to its US$7,917,458 total.

Andrew Stanton and Pixar's Wall-E remained the #1 movie for a second weekend and dropped only 7.4% from the previous weekend on its way to US$12,650,024. John Woo's Red Cliff Part I (#5) has now earned US$48,311,511 in its seventh weekend.
