Urasawa, Tatsumi, Taniguchi Nominated for 2010 Eisners

The 2010 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards panel of judges has announced its nominees for the best works in the comic book industry. Naoki Urasawa earned a Best Continuing Series nomination for 20th Century Boys. The series will be competing against Fables, Irredeemable, The Unwritten, and The Walking Dead. Urasawa and Takashi Nagasaki's Pluto: Urasawa X Tezuka series is also vying for the Best Limited Series or Story Arc award. In that category, it will be competing against Blackest Night, Incognito, Wolverine #66–72 and Wolverine Giant-Size Special, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Urasawa is up for the Best Writer/Artist award for both 20th Century Boys and Pluto: Urasawa X Tezuka, along with Darwyn Cooke, R. Crumb, David Mazzuccheilli, and Terry Moore.

Alternative gekiga creator Yoshihiro Tatsumi gets a Best Reality-Based Work nomination for his autobiographical A Drifting Life book, along with Laurie Sandell's The Imposter's Daughter; Ken Dahl's Monsters; Emmanuel Guibert, Didier Lefèvre, and Frédéric Lemerier's The Photographer; and David Small's Stitches. In the Best Graphic Album—New category, Jiro Taniguchi's A Distant Neighborhood is competing against Asterios Polyp, R. Crumb's The Book of Genesis Illustrated, My mommy is in America and she met Buffalo Bill, The Photographer, and Richard Stark's Parker: The Hunter.

The former Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Japan category has now been expanded to Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia. The following manga and manhwa titles are vying for the first award in the renamed category:

British anime journalist Helen McCarthy and American author Eric P. Nash will be competing in the Best Comics-Related Book category with The Art of Osamu Tezuka: God of Manga and Manga Kamishibai: The Art of Japanese Paper Theater, respectively. Japanese-American creator Stan Sakai earned a nod in the Best Single Issue (or One-Shot) category for Usagi Yojimbo #123.

Comic-Con International will host the awards ceremony on July 23 in San Diego.
