Japanese Box Office, April 17-18 (Updated)

Conan, Nodame, Shin-chan debut at #2, #3, #4

Detective Conan: The Lost Ship in The Sky, the 14th film in the Detective Conan franchise, debuted at #2 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's box office chart during the April 17-18 weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, the film ranked #3 and earned US$5,990,036 on 352 screens. In the film's story, Conan's rival, the Kid the Phantom Thief (Kaitō Kid), has his eyes set on the "Lady of the Sky" jewel aboard Bell Tree I, the largest airship in the world. However, a mysterious terrorist gorup called Red Shamu-neko has hijacked the airship itself, along with Conan and his allies Kogoro and Ran.

Nodame Cantabile Saishū Gakushō Kō-hen (Nodame Cantabile: The Final Score Part II), the second film in the two-part theatrical finale inspired by Tomoko Ninomiya's Nodame Cantabile musical romance manga, debuted at #3 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's box office chart. The film ranked at #2 on Box Office Mojo's chart and garnered US$6,001,656 on 410 screens.

Crayon Shin-chan: Chō Jikū! Arashi o Yobu Ora no Hanayome, the 18th film in the Crayon Shin-chan anime franchise, debuted at #4 with US$2,887,105 on 325 screens. For the first time in the series, the film will depict the future of the title character and his previously unseen bride, Tamiko.

My Darling is a Foreigner, the live-action film adaptation of Saori Oguri's 2002 autobiographical Darling wa Gaikokujin essay manga, fell from #3 to #7 during its second weekend. The film added US$772,269 on 250 screens for a total-to-date of US$3,359,173. Mao Inoue (Hana Yori Dango [2005], Boku no Hatsukoi o Kimi ni Sasagu) stars as Saori, a Japanese woman who marries a foreign husband named Tony (Jonathan Sherr).

The live-action film adaptation of Inio Asano's acclaimed Solanin romance manga rose from #9 to #8 during its third weekend. The film took in US$418,074 on 108 screens, for a three-week total of US$3,691,821. Aoi Miyazaki (live-action NANA film, Origin: Spirits of the Past, Someday's Dreamers, Tomie: Forbidden Fruit) stars in the film as the heroine Meiko, while Kengo Kōra will play her boyfriend Naruo. Takahiro Miki (DNA Sights 999.9), the director best known for music videos for Orange Range and YUI, is overseeing the project.

The Precure All Stars DX2: Kibō no Hikari—Rainbow Jewel o Mamore! (Precure All Stars DX2: Light of Hope— Protect the Rainbow Angel!) magical girl anime film dropped from #7 to #9 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart during its fifth weekend. The film earned US$302,630 on 157 screens for a total-to-date of US$11,462,953. The film features all 17 cure soldiers, including characters from the current seventh Pretty Cure series, Heartcatch Precure!

Doraemon: Nobita no Ningyo Daikaisen, (Doraemon: Nobita's Great Merman Sea Battle) fell from #4 to #10 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart during its seventh weekend. The film picked up US$299,713 on 317 screens for a total-to-date of US$32,330,072. This is the 30th movie in the popular children's anime franchise, which is also celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Liar Game: The Final Stage, the theatrical film adaptation of Shinobu Kaitani's Liar Game psychological thriller manga, fell Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart in its seventh weekend. The film ranked at #12 on Box Office Mojo's charts, earning US$193,964 on 283 screens for a seven-week total of US$24,309,043. The film is set after the second television season based on the manga.

The new #1 film was Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.
