CG Gatchaman Film Taken Off Imagi's Books

Restructured IMAGI Holdings takes 10.5 million-loss related to Astro Boy, Gatchaman holdings

IMAGI Holdings, the parent company of the now defunct IMAGI Animation Studio, confirmed that it is no longer pursuing the computer-animated remake of the Gatchaman franchise. After the 2009 Astro Boy film earned less than US$40 million on a US$65 million production budget, IMAGI Animation Studio closed down. However, IMAGI Holdings remained and could still outsource animation on its adaptation licenses for Astro Boy and Tatsunoko Production's Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (also known as G-Force and Battle for the Planets).

However IMAGI Holdings went forward with Chinese franchise Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf citing opportunities for consumer products in China and other countries. The company's 2011 financial results reported a loss of 82.2 million Hong Kong dollars (about US$10.5 million) related to Gatchaman and Astro Boy.

A trailer for the Gatchaman film was released by IMAGI in 2008.
