Toaru Majutsu no Index Tops 1 Chart, Places in Another

2nd Shinyaku is #1 on bunko chart; SP is #3 in general category

The second volume of Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index, Kazuma Kamachi's sequel to the popular Toaru Majutsu no Index (A Certain Magical Index) light novel series, sold 158,602 copies to top Oricon's bunko (trade paperback book) sales chart for the August 8-14 week. The first volume also topped the chart when it debuted in March. The original series, the side stories, and the sequel series have sold 12.3 million copies altogether.

In addition, a collection of previously uncompiled works called Toaru Majutsu no Index SP also debuted this past week. It sold 60,018 copies to rank at #3 in the "general" book category (separate from the bunko category). It is the first time that any Toaru Majutsu no Index had placed in the top 10 of the "general" book category.

The first Toaru Majutsu no Index light novel series inspired two television anime series, as well as A Certain Scientific Railgun manga that inspired its own anime franchise.
