Editor: Mardock Scramble, Sands of Time Film Rights Not Yet Sold

posted on by Egan Loo

Yoshihiro Shiozawa, the editor of Hayakawa Publishing's SF Magazine and science-fiction novels, reported on Thursday that the film adaptation rights to the Mardock Scramble and The Lord of the Sands of Time novels have not been sold yet, although he acknowledged that there are ongoing talks. Shiozawa was commenting on reports that live-action film adaptations have already been green-lit. However, he emphasized that these adaptations have not been licensed, much less officially green-lit at this point.

The entertainment trade magazine Variety reported on Wednesday that Japanese advertising agency Dentsu and Hayakawa Publishing have entered into a film rights agreement for these novels. According to Variety, writer and director Michael Davis (Shoot 'Em Up, Monster Man) has been attached to Mardock Scramble, while producer Don Murphy (live-action Transformers film trilogy) has been attached to The Lord of the Sands of Time.
