Weekend Wrapup: 10/6 - 16/6

posted on by Jon Hayward
This week is slightly late due to winter, but we have conventions in cold climates and a lot of punching to make up for it;

The Tasmanian anime convention, AICon has announced a return of the midyear event, MAICon for the 8th of September in Launceston. We'll have more information as it comes to light.

CAPCOM's historical action game franchise Sengoku Basara has inspired a live action television show that will premiere on the 12th of July. Actor / singer GACKT (Fûrin Kazan, New Fist of the North Star, Tono to Issho, Shiki) will star in it as Oda Nobunaga and be contributing the ending theme song "Haruko".

Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump has launched a free spinoff website "Tonari no Young Jump" with daily content and new series each week. The first series to launch is a collaboration between web manga creator ONE and Eyeshield 21 artist Yūsuke Murata, a remake of ONE's Onepunch-man. You can view the site here.

And finally, Hajime no Ippo creator George Morikawa has revealed that he will be starting a new short series in Weekly Shōnen Magazine titled Ai ni Iku yo. The five chapter series is based on Nobumi's Ue wo Muite Arukō! (I look up when I walk down) picture book about the 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster. Nobumi traveled to the areas affected by the earthquake as a volunteer two weeks after it struck, and Ue wo Muite Arukō! documents that experience.
