Lady Snowblood Double Bill DVD/Blu-ray September 24

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Both 1970s live-action films released together in Double Play edition and steelbook.

The distributor Arrow Video will release both of the 1970s live-action Lady Snowblood films on DVD/Blu-ray on September 24. Adapted from the manga by Kazuo Koike (Lone Wolf and Cub), the 1973 film Lady Snowblood and its 1974 sequel Lady Snowblood: Love Song of Vengeance feature Meiko Kaji as a swordswoman seeking vengeance for the fate of her mother. The films were a strong influence on Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill.

The Lady Snowblood double-bill will be released in two editions: a DVD/Blu-ray double-pack and a limited edition Blu-ray steelbook (pictured). Both editions will include a booklet on the films by Tom Mes, and an interview with Japanese cinema expert Jasper Sharp, while the films have been remastered with new subtitles.

From the Arrow Video website:

Meiko Kaji (Female Prisoner Scorpion/ Blind Woman's Curse) is Yuki, a women raised from birth for one terrible, blood splattered purpose...To murder those who raped her mother and left her to rot in a stinking women's prison, where she died in childbirth. Trained in deadly fighting arts and fatal sword play, Lady Snowblood is cursed to wander the lands in pursuit of her single purpose. She is a demon of vengeance, only sated by the crimson blood of those who stole her mother from her.

Then, in the sequel – Lady Snowblood: Love Song of Vengeance – Yuki is caught up in the corrupt and murderous world of politics as she is co-opted into spying by the head of the secret police against anarchists and enemies of the status quo.
