Manga follows aspiring soccer star after recovering from car accident

Shogakukan is currently streaming an animated commercial to advertise Motoyuki Tanaka's Be Blues! - Ao ni Nare soccer manga.

The manga centers around Ryū Ichijō, a boy who dreams of joining Japan's national soccer team. Ryū is called a genius soccer player, and his aspirations seem within his reach, but when he is in elementary school Ryū gets hit by a car while protecting his friend, and he must face two years of grueling rehabilitation. The manga focuses on Ryū as he joins his high school soccer club and works through the remnants of his injuries to achieve his goal.

Tanaka has been drawing the manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine since 2011. The publisher is releasing the 10th compiled volume on June 18.

Update: Embedded Shogakukan's official video. Thanks, IkariGendo.
