Montreal's Fantasia Hosts Western Premiere of Rurouni Kenshin - Kyoto Inferno Film

Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival has announced that it will host the Western premiere of Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno film on August 3. The film opens on August 1 in Japan, followed by Rurouni Kenshin: Densetsu no Saigo-hen (Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends) on September 13.
The festival describes the story:
Quick, cunning, and unstoppable with a sword in his hand, Himura Kenshin was once a fearsome warrior-assassin. The day came when he could no longer face the consequences of his actions, and so he turned his back on these violent ways. The violence, however, didn't turn away from him… following the criminal conspiracy and furious conflicts in Tokyo, Kenshin is sure that he can now live the quiet, peaceful life he desires in the company of Kaoru and his other friends. But the tranquility is interrupted by a call of duty that cannot be ignored. Makoto Shishio, a high-ranking assassin like Kenshin, was seen as a liability by the new Meiji government. Their efforts to eliminate him left him horribly burned — but alive, and hungry for vengeance. He has gathered a host of killers in Kyoto, and now the reluctant killer Kenshin must draw his sword once again, for the sake not just of his loved ones but of the entire nation.
The film's director Keishi Ōtomo and executive producer Hiroyoshi Koiwai are attending the festival as guests.
Fantasia will also host the North American premiere of the Thermae Romae II live-action film, Toshiaki Toyoda's Crows Explode (the third live-action film inspired by Hiroshi Takahashi's Crows fighting manga), Ju-On: The Beginning of the End (the Ju-on/The Grudge film reboot), Noboru Iguchi's Live, Eisuke Naito's Puzzle, Daigo Matsui's Sweet Poolside, Hiroyasu Ishida's Sonny Boy & Dewdrop Girl (Hinata no Aoshigure), and Hisayasu Sato's Hana-dama: The Origins films.
The event will host the international premiere of Ralph Ziman's live-action Kite film.
Production I.G's award-winning Giovanni's Island, the Hal anime film, Hideo Nakata's Monsterz, Tsukasa Kishimoto's Dancing Karate Kid, Yosuke Fujita's Fuku-chan of Fukufuku Flats, Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Seventh Code, Bayonetta: Bloody Fate, Hunter × Hunter: Phantom Rouge, Hunter × Hunter -The Last Mission-, Gun Woman, Nuigulumar Z, Uzumasa Limelight, Zombie TV and Takashi Murakami's Jellyfish Eyes films will also screen at the event for their Canadian premieres.
Other films screening include: Appleseed Alpha, Takashi Miike's The Mole Song – Undercover Agent Reiji (Mogura no Uta), the new HD master of Ghost in the Shell, the Black Butler live-action film, Killers,, Real, The Snow White Murder Case, and Takashi Nakamura's The Portrait Studio.
Director Mamoru Oshii will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the event on July 17.
The festival will run from July 17 through August 5.
