posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Series centers on foolish cat girl trying to become Chinese zodiac member

Animation studio Shirogumi Inc. (Moyashimon, Antique Bakery, Friends: Mononoke Shima no Naki) and Tablier Communications are launching a new television anime series temporarily titled Etotama.

Shirogumi is currently streaming the second version of a promotional video for the series. The text in the beginning of video reads: "The battle two thousand years ago was a race."

The show's official website has also revealed some character designs and cast:

Rie Murakawa will play Nya-tan, the cat zodiac. She and the other zodiac characters have an "adult mode" and a "pretty mode"

Hiro Shimono will play Takeru Tendo, a high school student who lives in Akihabara.

Mo-tan is the cow zodiac character.

Umatan is the horse zodiac character.

Niconico will host a live-streaming event for the anime on November 12 at 9:00 p.m. in Japan. The event will announce more cast and characters, and will feature Murakawa and Shimono as guests.

Kadokawa's Dengeki Daioh magazine launched a manga version of the series in the January 2014 issue. Shirogumi and Tablier Communications are credited with the original work, Takashi Hoshi (Schäferhund) and Tōru Zekū (Trinity x Venus) are credited with the manga's original story, and Hiroma Hino is drawing the manga.

The manga's story revolvesaround Nya-tan, the cat of Chinese astrology who wants to become a member of the Chinese zodiac. Nya-tan is simple and suffers from memory loss, and she tries various foolish ways to become a member. She meets Takeru Tendo, a high school student who lives alone in Akihabara, and becomes a freeloader at his house. Little by little, she gets closer to her goal.

The tagline on the manga's key visual reads "Her aim is to enter the Chinese zodiac! This is a story of Nya-tan not trying very hard."
