Yo-kai Watch Anime to Premiere on Toonami Asia

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
65 episodes of anime will air on weekends starting on Saturday

Toonami Asia announced on Friday that the Yōkai Watch anime will run on the channel in countries in South and Southeast Asia starting on Saturday. Toonami Asia also began streaming a trailer previewing the show's opening theme "Geragerapō no Uta" by King Cream Soda.

Toonami Asia describes the anime's story:

Keita Amano is just a regular boy living in a regular place called Sakura New Town. One summer's day, he encounters a strange white Yo-kai called Whisper, who starts following him around. Whisper gives Keita a strange timepiece known as the Yōkai Watch, and with it, he starts finding Yo-kai all over his hometown!

Keita soon learns that most everyday troubles are caused by Yo-kai, and that by persuading and sometimes battling with them, he can solve people's problems, and make new Yo-kai friends in the process!

Toonami Asia will air 65 half-hour episodes of the anime as part of its Anime Siege programming block. The show will run on weekends at 10:15 a.m.

Game developer Level-5 announced the Yōkai Watch franchise in 2011 with a game, manga, and anime already planned. The franchise's first game for the Nintendo 3DS debuted in Japan in July 2013, and the anime premiered in January 2014. Bandai sells Yōkai Watch toys and game tie-in medals in Japan.

Nintendo will publish the Yōkai Watch role-playing game in English on its Nintendo 3DS platform in North America later this year.
