King of Prism by PrettyRhythm Anime Film Revealed With Trailer

New film set after TV series will center on "Over the Rainbow" boys unit

The Pretty Rhythm franchise revealed the KING OF PRISM by PrettyRhythm anime film on Sunday. The film will open at Shinjuku's Wald 9 theater and other theaters across Japan on January 9. The film will take place 1.5 years after the end of the TV anime series, and it will center on the boys unit "Over the Rainbow."

The film will star:

Tetsuya Kakihara as Kōji Mihama
Tomoaki Maeno as Hiro Hayami
Toshiki Masuda as Kazuki Nishina
Shinichirō Miki as Jin Norizuki

The announcement describes the film's story:

The unit Over The Rainbow succeeds in its debut. Aiming to become like the boy band, more students enroll in Edel Rose. Hiro and the others begin practice for the Prism King Cup, an event that is held once every four years. However, a rival called "Schwarz Rose" appears... Who will become the Prism King, the one who can make girls' hearts throb the most!?

Toy maker Takara Tomy and game developer syn Sophia launched the Pretty Rhythm franchise with the 2010 arcade game Pretty Rhythm Mini-Skirt. The arcade games are targeted toward elementary school girls. The stories center around aspiring idols who compete in Prism Shows, a new kind of event that combines skating, dancing, singing, and fashion. The franchise has inspired four TV anime series, three anime films, and the PriPara successor franchise.
