Media Factory is currently streaming a special episode of the Overlord TV anime's Pure Pure Purea Desu chibi character anime shorts to celebrate the release of the anime's first DVD and Blu-ray Disc volume last Friday. The short features Ains and Albedo trying to figure out a way to advertise the Blu-ray. The short also outlines the Blu-ray box's contents, including special packaging art by original character designer so-bin, a digipak containing art from character designer Takahiro Yoshimatsu, character cards, commentary tracks, episodes of the Pure Pure Purea Desu shorts, a manga drawn by Overlord manga aritst Hugin Miyama, and a novel by original creator Kugane Maruyama.

The comedy anime shorts feature super-deformed characters and aired after the AT-X network's broadcast of each episode of the television anime. Media Factory streamed new episodes of the anime shorts starting on the Friday after each new episode of the television series aired. Each episode has been available for a two-week limited period.

The Overlord anime's main cast reprised their roles for the anime shorts. Minoru Ashina (Kōkaku Kidōtai Nyumon Arise, Agriculture Angel Baraki) produced, directed, and wrote scripts for the shorts. Minoru Takehara (Agriculture Angel Baraki, Boku, Otaryman) served as the petite character designer and animation director. Studio Puyukai (Kōkaku Kidōtai Nyumon Arise, Agriculture Angel Baraki) animated the series, and Medicrie offered production cooperation.

The 13-episode Overlord television anime series premiered in Japan on July 7. The story takes place in the year 2138 when virtual reality gaming is booming. Yggdrasil, a popular online game, is quietly shut down one day. However, the protagonist Momonga decides to not log out. Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as "the most powerful wizard." The world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) beginning to feel emotion. Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga then strives to take over the new world the game has become.
