Coppelion Released Monday

posted on by Andrew Osmond
SF series released by Manga Entertainment

On Monday November 23, Manga Entertainment will release the 13-part series Coppelion. From the Anime-on-line website:

In the not-so-distant future, a catastrophic event has turned the old capital of Japan into a wasteland, forever changing the lives of its people. Decades later, three schoolgirls set foot into the now forsaken city. They are the Coppelion, genetically engineered humans created by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force to operate under the lethal conditions of the contaminated city. Trained since birth, the girls must use all of their skills and resources to carry out their one and only mission: to rescue those left behind.

Shingo Suzuki (K, Mardock Scramble films) directed the series and handled the character designs. Makoto Nakamura (Princess Lover!, Cuticle Detective Inaba) was in charge of series composition and Hiroshi Okubo (K, Mardock Scramble films) handled mechanical designs. The animation was produced at studio GoHands (K, Mardock Scramble films) with series directors Susumu Kudo and Hiromitsu Kanazawa.

The manga began in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine in 2008 and moved to Monthly Young Magazine in 2012. Weekly Young Magazine announced a Coppelion television anime in 2010, but the plans were put on hold after the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster.
