Girls & Panzer Film Stays at #2 With 65 Million Yen in 2nd Weekend

Sells 41,957 more tickets; My Love Story!!, Go! Princess Precure also in top 10

The former editor-in-chief of Kadokawa Shoten's Movie Walker website reported on Monday that the Girls und Panzer anime film sold 41,957 tickets for 64,933,050 yen (about US$527,133) in its second weekend. It stay at #2 in attendance at the Japanese box office this past weekend, below the French CG film of Antoine De Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince novel.

The live-action film of the My Love Story!! (Ore Monogatari!!) manga rose from #8 to #6 in its fifth weekend. The Eiga Go! Princess Precure Go! Go!! Gōka 3-bon Date!!! (Go! Princess Pretty Cure the Movie Go! Go!! Gorgeous Triple Feature!!!) anime films also rose from #11 to #10 in its fifth weekend.

The new film in the Girls und Panzer franchise with an all-original story was announced in 2013, although it was initially planned for release last year. The television anime series' Tsutomu Mizushima returned to direct the film, and the main cast also returned. ChouCho performed the theme song for the film.

Girls und Panzer sold 84,752 tickets for 128,438,980 yen (about US$1.05 million) on its opening weekend on November 21.

The anime franchise began with a television series that premiered in 2012. The story centers around high school girls who drive tanks that exist in real life, as they compete in teams. Crunchyroll and Anime Network both streamed the anime outside Japan. An all-new original video anime (OVA) titled "Kore ga Hontō no Anzio-sen Desu!" (This is the Real Anzio Battle!) premiered in Japanese theaters in July 2014, and the anime shipped on DVD and Blu-ray later that month.
