Kuma Miko Blu-ray/DVDs to Include Original Video Anime

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
1st volume slated for June 24, 2nd volume for August 24

The official website of the Kuma Miko: Girl Meets Bear anime revealed on Monday that the anime's two Blu-ray Disc and DVD home video volumes will each contain a new original video anime (OVA). The first home video release will include an OVA titled "Hatsuyuki no Hi" (The Day of the First Snow), while the second home video release includes an OVA titled "Nacchan, Shōgeki Debut!" (Nacchan's Shocking Debut!).

The first volume is slated for release on June 24, while the second volume is slated for August 24. Each volume will include six episodes. Other extras on the first volume include a character song and soundtrack CD, 12 commercial break illustration cards, an event application ticket, a cast video, and a pre-screening event video. Other extras on the second volume include a booklet, another character song and soundtrack CD, 12 more commercial break illustration cards, another cast video, creditless opening and ending videos, and promotional videos and commercials.

The anime is based on Masume Yoshimoto's manga of the same name. The original manga follows Machi, a middle school student who serves as a shrine maiden (miko) at a Shinto shrine enshrining a bear (kuma) in the recesses of a certain mountain in Japan's northern Tōhoku region. Machi's guardian is a talking bear named Natsu, and one day Machi says to Natsu, "I want to go to a school in the city." The worrywart Natsu then gives Machi — who is ignorant in the ways of the world — a set of trials that she must pass in order to be able to survive in the city.

The anime premiered in Japan on Sunday, and Funimation is streaming the series as it airs.

Kiyoshi Matsuda (episode director for Wagnaria!!, Natsume's Book of Friends season 3, Durarara!!) is making his directorial debut with the series at Kinema Citrus and EMT Squared. Pierre Sugiura (Yuyushiki, Barakamon) and Masao Iketani are writing the scripts, and Hiroyuki Saida (My mental choices are completely interfering with my school romantic comedy) is designing the characters and serving as chief animation director.
