LoVendoЯ's Reina Tanaka plays Miaka Yūki in 1st Fushigi Yugi musical

Japanese manga news website Comic Natalie revealed more than 50 pictures on Thursday of the cast of the first stage musical adaptation of Yuu Watase's Fushigi Yugi manga, Fushigi Yugi ~Ake no Shō~ (Fushigi Yugi ~Vermilion Chapter~). The pictures feature the cast in costume at an interview and in action during a dress rehearsal. The play opened at Tokyo's Owlspot theater on Friday, and will run until April 17 with a total of 15 performances.

Comic Natalie's website has the full gallery.

The play's cast list includes:

Reina Tanaka as Miaka Yūki

Ryō Hirano as Tamahome

Shiori Sakata as Yui Hongō

Juri Aikawa as Nakago

Takahisa Maeyama as Hotohori

Mao Miyaji as Nuriko

Yoshikazu Kotani as Tasuki

Eiji Takigawa as Mitsukake

Tatsumaru Tachibana as Chichiri

Tsubasa Hattori as Amiboshi

DAIKI Tomida as Chiriko

Mina Kuryū as Shouka

Zendō Ware as Eiken

Jun Fujimiya as Taiitsukun

Tanaka, a former Morning Musume member and current LoVendoЯ rock band member, is playing the lead role. This is her first stage production since graduating from Morning Musume in 2013. Hirano, Aikawa, Miyaji, Kotani, and DAIKI are all reprising their roles from the previous amipro stage play adaptations of the manga.

While the company amipro worked on three previous stage play productions of Fushigi Yugi, this is the first musical adaptation. Kōtarō Yoshitani (Alice in the Country of Hearts musical, Hetalia ~Singin' in the World~) is directing the musical, and also wrote the script. Asuka Ami is credited as producer. The play is the first of two parts, although amipro has not yet revealed any details about the second part.

Nelke Planning produced a stage play of Fushigi Yugi last March, focused on Tamahome, and starring Golden Bomb band member Yutaka Kyan. It was the first stage play adaptation of the manga not produced by amipro.
