Live-Action Nigakute Amai Film Unveils Visual, More of Cast, September Debut

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

The staff for the live-action film of Yumiwo Kobayashi's romantic comedy manga Nigakute Amai (Bitter and Sweet) revealed the film's visual, additional cast, and September 10 opening date on Wednesday.

The visual recreates the art from the cover of the manga's first compiled book volume.

The film will star Haruna Kawaguchi (live-action Say "I love you". film's Mei Tachibana, Ouran High School Host Club film's Haruhi) as Maki and Kento Hayashi (live-action Arakawa Under the Bridge's Riku, Lesson of the Evil's Masahiko) as Nagisa.

The rest of the cast includes:

Yasushi Fuchikami as Arata Tachibana, Nagisa's lover who used to live with him

Hiyori Sakurada as Minami Aoi, a teen model

Mackenyu as Atsushi Babazono, Nagisa's senior at work

RIP SLIME member Su (Kazuto Ōtsuki) as Yassan, the gay bartender at the bar Nagisa goes to

Hideo Nakano as Maki's father, who works as a vegetable farmer

Mako Ishino as Maki's mother, who works as a vegetable farmer

The manga follows an office worker named Maki who is around 30 years old, and a handsome gay man named Nagisa who is a teacher at a boys' school. Maki is a "carnivore woman," a term that means a woman who is assertive in her pursuit of men. She is attractive and great at her job, but is single and has no luck with men, and she can't cook or clean. Nagisa is a vegetarian who excels at cooking. The manga centers on food and follows these two opposite people as they live together.

Shōgo Kusano (Karappo, Mogera Wogura) is directing the film, and Europe Kikaku's Makoto Ueda is planning the script, while Europe Kikaku's Tomohiro Ōtoshi is writing the script.

Kobayashi launched the series on Mag Garden's web comic magazine EDEN in November 2009, and Mag Garden published the manga's 11th compiled volume last October. The 12th volume is slated for May 14.
