Mr. Osomatsu's 6th BD/DVD Volumes Both Rank #1 on Anime Charts

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
4th volume in series with #1 BD & DVD, 6th DVD in series to rank #1 in animation

The sixth DVD and Blu-ray Disc volumes of the Mr. Osomatsu television anime both topped their respective Oricon charts in the animation category for the June 20-26 week. The DVD release sold 20,000 copies, while the Blu-ray Disc release sold 18,000 copies. Both the DVD and Blu-ray Disc also ranked #2 in their respective Oricon charts in the overall category, below Gen Hoshino's Live Tour "Yellow Voyage" home video releases in both charts.

Both home video releases shipped on June 24.

The home video release is the fourth release in the Mr. Osomatsu series whose DVD and Blu-ray Disc both ranked #1 in the animation category simultaneously. The first, second, and third DVD and Blu-ray Disc volumes all previously ranked #1. The DVD release is also the sixth DVD in the series to rank #1 in the animation category, with all five previous DVD releases ranking #1 in the animation category.

With the fifth DVD volume's release in May, the series also became the first TV anime in 15 years to top the overall DVD ranking two times in a row, after topping the chart with the fourth DVD volume in April. The last series to do so was Love Hina's second (September 2000) and third (October 2000) volumes. Before that was To Heart's first (May 1999) and second (July 1999) volumes.

Fujio Akatsuka's original Osomatsu-kun manga and "high tension comedy" TV anime centered on the Matsuno household, which has six naughty and mischievous sons (who are sextuplets). All of the sextuplets, including the eldest Osomatsu, are all in love with the same girl, Totoko. The original series followed the family when the sons were 10 years old. The Mr. Osomatsu show re-imagines the original manga and TV anime with the sextuplets as adults.

The series premiered last October. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan.
