Mari Okada, Forget Me Not's Emoto Launch New Manga

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Story focuses on literary club members, non-beautiful aspects of youth

The December issue of Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine announced on Wednesday that Mari Okada (anohana, Hana-Saku Iroha, The Anthem of the Heart script writer) and Nao Emoto (Forget Me Not) will launch a new manga in the January issue on December 9. Okada is providing the story for the new series, titled Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo (Maidens of the Savage Season), and Emoto is illustrating the manga. The first chapter will get color pages.

The manga's tagline is "Youth is not only beautiful." The story centers on the members of a school literary club. Another tagline reads, "I pushed through those bushes... The sweet that sap flows from the girl (the following omitted)."

Okada has written and overseen scripts for such anime as Toradora! and A Lull in the Sea. Her recent works include the Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Kiznaiver, and The Lost Village television anime. She is also writing the scripts for her first live-action project, a film adaptation of Rikako Akiyoshi's Ankoku Joshi (Girls in the Dark) horror mystery novel.

Emoto serialized her Forget Me Not romance manga, inspired by Mag Hsu's original Taiwanese novel Mǎzimen, from 2013 to 2016. Kodansha Comics is publishing the series in North America, and the fifth compiled volume will ship on November 22. The original novel inspired a live-action television series in 2015, and Crunchyroll is streaming the show.
