Short Film for Level-5's Snack World Shown With 3rd Yo-kai Watch Film

The official website of Eiga Yo-kai Watch: Sora Tobu Kujira to Double no Sekai no Daibōken da Nyan! (Yo-kai Watch The Movie: The Flying Whale and the Grand Adventure of the Double Worlds, Meow!), the third Yo-kai Watch film, announced on Tuesday that the feature will play along with a new short film of Level-5's The Snack World cross-media project. The short is titled "Snack World: Hitogirai no Renny" (Snack World: Renny the Misanthrope), and it will open with the new Yo-kai Watch feature film on December 17.

Level-5 head Akihiro Hino is serving as the project's chief director, and he also penned the original story concept and script. Motonori Sakakibara is directing the short, and Takuzō Nagano is designing the characters. Rei Kondoh is composing the music. The short's cast includes Megumi Han as main character Chup, Ayana Taketatsu as the misanthropic dragon Renny, and Fumiko Orikasa as Renny's mother Flam.

The "hyper casual fantasy" is set in Snack World, a seemingly traditional fantasy world — except it has convenience stores, smartphones, and other elements of the modern world. Level-5 previously streamed the project's pilot film in both Japanese and English audio in 2015, and a short film similarly debuted alongside last year's Yo-kai Watch film.

The Snack World is Level-5's fourth cross-media project after Inazuma Eleven, Little Battlers eXperience, and Yo-kai Watch. The project's CG anime film opened alongside the second Yo-kai Watch film last December. The project will feature a Nintendo 3DS/Android/iOS game by Level-5, a manga series running in Shogakukan's Monthly Coro Coro Comics magazine, and a television anime premiering in April 2017. The game is slated for April 2017 for iOS and Android devices, and July 2017 for the Nintendo 3DS. The manga will launch in December.

The Eiga Yo-kai Watch: Sora Tobu Kujira to Double no Sekai no Daibōken da Nyan! film's story is set in both an anime and a live-action world and will open in Japan on December 17. Child actor Ryōka Minamide will play main character Keita Amano in the live-action parts of the film. A new Yo-kai named Koala-nyan will be key to the plot of the double worlds.

Hino is also serving as the executive producer for the film and is also writing the film's script.
