Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru Anime Gets Sequel

Production on a sequel to the Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru television anime has been green-lit. The announcement was made at the "Special Event Hanamaru Biyori!" at Makuhari Messe in Chiba on Sunday. Character designer Junichirō Taniguchi drew a new illustration of Yasusada Yamatonokami and Kiyomitsu Kashū for the occasion. However, the staff has not revealed the sequel's story or which characters will appear in the sequel.
DMM's original Tōken Ranbu Online "sword personification training game" takes famous swords from Japanese history and interprets them as bishōnen. Nitroplus designed the characters and scenario. The game launched in Japan in 2015, and it has more than 1.5 million registered users. The game has acquired a large female fanbase and inspired a wide range of merchandise, as well as several manga and stage productions.

The year is 2205. The "historical revisionists" have begun attacks on the past in their plot to change history. The Saniwa, who have been charged with protecting history, can imbue life into objects. Strongest among these are the Tōken Danshi. The story centers around their cheerful lives.
Tōken Ranbu: Hanamaru premiered on October 2, and just concluded in December. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan, and Funimation is streaming the English broadcast dub episodes for the series.
Takashi Naoya (Luck & Logic co-director, Selector Infected Wixoss animation director) directed the first series at Doga Kobo. Junichirō Taniguchi (Natsuyuki Rendezvous, Prison School) designed the characters, and Pierre Sugiura (Barakamon) wrote and oversaw the scripts. Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, Eden of the East, Ranma ½) composed the music. Mitsuhiro Ichiki and Toshiki Masuda performed the opening theme song "Hanamaru◎Hiyori!" (Hanamaru Weather). The anime has a different ending theme song for each episode, performed by the show's cast.
The studio ufotable is producing Katsugeki! Tōken Ranbu (Action Picture! Touken Ranbu), another anime adaptation slated for July.
