Seishirō Katō Stars in Short Film Based on Manga by Dee Juusan

Jūsan's manga was winner in 2nd Silent Manga Audition in 2014

The official website of the Kumamoto International Manga Festival revealed on Tuesday that 15-year old actor Seishirō Katō (You Are Umasou, live-action Assassination Classroom) and his younger brother, the nine-year-old Kenshirō Katō, will star in a short film adaptation of Dee Jūsan's "Drawing a Smile Out" short manga. The short film will debut during at the Kumamoto International Manga Festival, which will take place on April 15 and 16.

The short manga by Jordanian illustrator Jūsan won an "Excellence Award" for the second Silent Manga Audition in 2014. The Silent Manga Audition highlights artists who draw short comics around the world in the style of manga. All entries in the competition are required to have no dialogue. The theme for the second round in 2014 was "The Finest Smile."

The seventh and most recent Silent Manga Audition's deadline for submissions ended on March 31. Fist of the North Star's Tetsuo Hara, City Hunter's Tsukasa Hōjō, Monthly Comic Zenon editor in chief Nobuhiko Horie, and former editor in chief of Monthly Shonen Jump Tadashi Negishi are the judges for this round. The next Silent Manga Audition has a deadline of September 30.
