Ai Kayano, Yui Ogura also star in TV anime after September OAD

The June issue of Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine is revealing the cast for the television anime of Ken Akamatsu's UQ Holder! Magister Negi Magi! 2 manga on Friday.

The cast includes:

Yuka Takakura (Urara Meirochō's Ōshima, The "Hentai" Prince and the Stony Cat.'s Mai Maimaki) will star in the television anime and the separate upcoming original anime DVD (OAD) as Touta Konoe.

The manga is getting a separate upcoming original anime DVD (OAD) The OAD will be bundled with the manga's 14th volume on September 8. The OAD will show when Touta and 16-year-old Evangeline met, as well as an original episode about "naked friendship," starring Kurōmaru, Karin, and Kirie at the Senkyōkan inn's open-air bath.

UQ Holder! is set in the world of Akamatsu's Negima! Magister Negi Magi manga, and takes place years after the earlier manga. The story centers on a boy named Touta who dreams of leaving his small town and moving to the city. However, he must first defeat his teacher, the immortal Evangeline.

Youhei Suzuki (Urara Meirochō, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Sword Oratoria) is directing the anime at J.C. Staff. Akamatsu himself is in charge of the series scripts alongside Shogo Yasukawa (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, Alderamin on the Sky). Masahiro Fujii (Hayate the Combat Butler, The Familiar of Zero) is designing the characters, and EGG FIRM is producing the series.

Akamatsu had previously teased in December that the anime adaptation would be both a television anime and an original anime DVD (OAD), with both having a release this year.

Akamatsu launched UQ Holder! in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in Japan in August 2013. The manga went on hiatus last June, before it returned and switched to Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine last October, with the new title UQ Holder! Magister Negi Magi! 2. Kodanshi shipped the manga's 13th volume on April 7.

Kodansha Comics publishes the manga in English, and it published the 10th volume on March 14.
