'Cocolors' Anime Short Wins Satoshi Kon Award at Fantasia Int'l Film Festival

Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival revealed its winners for this year's festival on Thursday. Toshihisa Yokoshima's "Cocolors" short film won the "Axis: The Satoshi Kon Award for Excellence in Animation" award for a short film.

Takahide Hori's "JUNK HEAD" stop-motion film earned a Special Mention in the Satoshi Kon Award for a feature film.

Additionally, Kenji Kamiyama's Napping Princess (Ancien and the Magic Tablet) anime film won the Gold Prize for the "Best Animated Feature Film" audience award. Masaaki Yuasa's Lu over the wall anime film won the Silver Prize in same category, and his Night is Short, Walk On Girl anime film won the Bronze Prize in the same category.

Takashi Miike's live-action Blade of the Immortal film also earned a Silver Prize for the "Best Asian Feature Film" audience award.

Yokoshima and Kamikaze Douga's "Cocolors" short is the second installment in Kamikaze Douga's Gasoline Mask project.

The story of "Cocolors" takes place hundreds of years after an eruption of Mt. Fuji caused a massive disaster. Everyone must live deep underground, and wear large masks and protective clothing covering the entire body. In this harsh environment, two young boys named Aki and Fuyu live. The two boys join a recovery team that ventures out to the outside world.

Yokoshima ("Amanatsu" short, movies for Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito, Final Fantasy Tactics: Shishi Sensō) directed, wrote, storyboarded, and produced the project for Kamikaze Douga's Nishiki Studio. Yoshihiko Ishiguro served as animation director and CGI Director. Michi Suzuki was the character designer, and Yuichi Suehiro was the art director. Kaoru/Brilliance composed the music.
