Mr. Osomatsu Season 2 Continues With 2nd Cour in January

4 new short episodes to ship with BD/DVD volumes 2, 4, 6, 8 in 2018

The official website for the Mr. Osomatsu anime announced on Monday that the second cour of the anime's second season will premiere in January.

The website also announced that the second Blu-ray Disc/DVD volume of the second season will include the first of four new short episodes. The fourth, sixth, and eighth Blu-ray Disc/DVD volumes of the second season will include the second, third, and fourth new short episodes respectively. The second, fourth, sixth, and eighth Blu-ray Disc/DVD volumes will ship on January 26, March 30, May 25, and July 27, respectively. Yōichi Fujita is directing the short episodes, and Shū Matsubara is writing their scripts.

The second Mr. Osomatsu anime season premiered in Japan on TV Tokyo and TV Aichi on October 2, and also ran on the TV Osaka, AT-X, and BS Japan channels.

Yōichi Fujita returned to direct the anime's second season at Studio Pierrot with character designer Naoyuki Asano. Shū Matsubara returned as series script supervisor and scriptwriter. Other main staff members also returned, along with the main voice cast. AŌP performed the opening theme song, while ROOTS66 —  27 musical artists who were born in the year 1966 (the year the original Osomatsu-kun anime premiered) — perfomed the ending theme song "Let's Go! Muttsugo! ~6-iro no Niji~" (Let's go! Sextuplets! Six-Color Rainbow) with the voice cast.

The Mr. Osomatsu television anime is inspired by Fujio Akatsuka's original Osomatsu-kun manga and "high tension comedy" TV anime, which centered on the Matsuno household with six naughty and mischievous sons (who are sextuplets). All of the sextuplets, including the eldest Osomatsu, are all in love with the same girl, Totoko. The original Osomatsu-kun series followed the family when the sons were 10 years old. Mr. Osomatsu re-imagines the original manga and TV anime with the sextuplets as adults.

The first Mr. Osomatsu anime season premiered in October 2015, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. The Osomatsu-san Ouma de Kobanashi special aired in Japan on December 12, and Crunchyroll streamed the anime under the title "Mr. Osomatsu JRA Special 2016." The 24-minute special is part of the "Hashire! Oumatsu-san" collaboration between Mr. Osomatsu and the Japan Racing Association. The collaboration also includes a series of six new anime shorts titled "Mutsugo to Ouma no Monogatari" (The Story of the Sextuplets and a Horse).

Viz Media acquired the digital streaming, electronic sell-through, home video, and merchandise rights for the Mr. Osomatsu anime, including the second season.
