Rilu Rilu Fairilu Anime Gets 3rd TV Season This Summer

Sanrio & Sega Toys' franchise centering around "Fairilu" fairies

The official Twitter account for the Rilu Rilu Fairilu television anime announced on Thursday that a third season of the anime has been green-lit. The third season will premiere this summer, and the account promises more details in future announcements.

In the franchise's story, "Fairilu" are fairies of flowers, insects, mermaids, or other entities that are born from "Farilu Seeds." All Fairilu are born with their own key, and they must search to find and open the door that fits only their key. Once the Fairilu pass through the doors, they mature. The doors are also related to the human world.

The anime series is part of Sanrio and Sega Toys' Rilu Rilu Fairilu collaborative multimedia character project. The project also includes merchandise, books, a game, and events.

The first anime season premiered in Japan on February 6, 2016. Sakura Gojō directed the anime at Studio DEEN (Jewelpet: Magical Change). Aya Matsui (Dragon Ball GT, Marmalade Boy, Tamagotchi!) handled the series composition, and Jinshichi Yamaguchi designed the characters.

The second anime season, Rilu Rilu Fairilu: Mahō no Kagami, premiered on April 7, 2017. The second season introduced a new bellflower Fairilu, who hatches from a Fairilu Seed that Nozomi's little sister Karen has by chance.

The project is the second multimedia character collaborative project for the two companies after they launched the Jewelpet franchise in 2008. Rilu Rilu Fairilu is similarly geared toward elementary school-age girls.
