Madhouse returns to animate new season premiering July

The staff of Overlord III, the third television anime season based on Kugane Maruyama's Overlord novel series, revealed on Wednesday that OxT and MYTH&ROID are returning to perform the opening and ending theme songs, respectively, of the new anime.

OxT's opening theme song is titled "VORACITY," and the CD single is slated to ship on July 25. MYTH&ROID's ending theme song remains untitled, but the CD single is slated for August 8.

OxT and MYTH&ROID previously performed the opening and ending theme songs, respectively, of both the first and second season. MYTH&ROID founding member and former vocalist Mayu left the group to pursue a solo career last November, just before the second season's January premiere. The vocalist KIHOW joined the group last year.

The third season will premiere in July. Madhouse will return from the first two seasons to animate the new season.

The anime's new cast members include:

Takahiro Sakurai as Gilkunif

Takaya Hashi as Fulder

The second series premiered in January and ended on April 3. Crunchyroll streamed the second series as it aired, and Funimation streamed an English dub.

The first 13-episode Overlord television anime series premiered in Japan in July 2015. Funimation streamed the anime series as it aired in Japan, and the company released the series with an English dub on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in November 2016.

The novels and anime's story takes place in the year 2138 when virtual reality gaming is booming. Yggdrasil, a popular online game, is quietly shut down one day. However, the protagonist Momonga decides to not log out. Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as "the most powerful wizard." The world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) beginning to feel emotion. Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga then strives to take over the new world the game has become.
