Actor Diego Boneta Pictured in Costume for Hollywood Live-Action Monster Hunter Film

Film started production earlier this month

Mexican actor Diego Boneta (Luis Miguel: La Serie, Pretty Little Liars) posted an image on his Instagram account on Tuesday of him in costume and on set for Constantin Film's Hollywood live-action film adaptation of CAPCOM's Monster Hunter action game franchise. Boneta stated he is playing a character named Sergeant Marshall.

The film will star Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil movie franchise) as Artemis and martial arts actor Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak film series) as "The Hunter." Additionally, Ron Perlman (Hellboy film series, Pacific Rim, Sons of Anarchy) plays the Admiral, who is the leader of The Hunter's crew. T.I. Harris (Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp) plays a sniper named Link.

CAPCOM describes the film's story:

The film will depict two protagonists who come from different worlds and must cooperate in fighting monsters in order to survive.

CAPCOM also told entertainment news website Variety regarding the plot, "Along the way, viewers will make new discoveries and encounter familiar faces and beloved characters from the games like the Admiral."

Constantin Film will release the film in German-speaking territories, Tencent Pictures will release the film in China, and Sony's Screen Gems will release the film in the United States. TOHO will distribute the film in Japan. Sony Pictures Releasing International will release the film in the rest of the world.

The film is budgeted at around US$60 million, and will shoot in and around Cape Town in South Africa. The film started production earlier this month.

Martin Moszkowicz, Chairman of the Executive Board of Constantin Film, said at Cannes that Constantin Film is planning the project as a film series, adding, "we are in the business of brand creation."

Constantin Film produced all six films in the Paul W.S. Anderson-directed Resident Evil franchise. Anderson is also directing the Monster Hunter film, and his Impact Pictures producing partner Jeremy Bolt is producing. Impact Pictures released a concept picture for the film (seen right) in November 2016, showing a dragon at Los Angeles International Airport.

Anderson also wrote the film's screenplay. Mr. X is producing the special effects, and the company's president Dennis Berardi is credited as producer. Anderson stated that he sees the film and the game's world as an "opportunity to have a cinematic universe."
