Genco's Sushi Ninja Listed With Anime Project in the Works

posted on by Karen Ressler
3-episode short series debuted on Daisuki in 2014

The official website for GENCO's Sushi Ninja animated series updated within the last two months and now features a notice that an anime project is in the works.

The first Sushi Ninja anime was a series of three shorts, each with a runtime of less than five minutes. The series debuted at Anime Expo in 2014, then streamed on the now-defunct streaming service Daisuki. The series was initially available in Japanese with English subtitles, but Daisuki later added an English dub.

Daisuki described the series:

Elite Sushi Ninja fights with evil Monsters for justice every day! They, however, are on the popular superhero TV show…. In the real world, three lazy kids named “IKURA”, “MAGURO”, and “TAMAGO” watch with that TV show. They wish to be Heroes like the Sushi Ninja on the TV show some day, but they always fall out over something stupid. One day, they unexpectedly meet up with a beautiful Princess being chasing by Nachos King Gang. She deems the three guys to be the Heroic Sushi Ninja on TV show and asks them for help. They are so excited and act like the heroes on TV show. Then they decide to face with the enemies to protect the Princess…. Can they be the real Heroes and protect the Princess from the evil?

Moto Sakakibara (Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within) directed the shorts and GENCO is producing the project.

JAM Project members Hironobu Kageyama, Masaaki Endoh and Hiroshi Kitadani performed the show's theme song. The cast included:

GENCO advertised the title at Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2017.

A tie-in smartphone game titled Dash!! Sushi Ninja!! launched in December 2015 but ended service in October 2017.

Update: While GENCO's trademark for "Sushi Ninja" in the United States was abandoned on November 5, GENCO told ANN that it does plan to update the trademark.
