Penerbit Haru Licenses 3rd Novel in Honobu Yonezawa's Kotenbu Series

Indonesian publisher Penerbit Haru announced on Tuesday that it has licensed Honobu Yonezawa's The Kudryavka Sequence (Kudryavka no Junban) novel, a sequel book of Yonezawa's Hyōka mystery novel, and the third book in the Kotenbu series. The company asked readers to vote on one of two covers for the book.

The third book's story begins close to the school's Cultural Festival, the Kanya Festival. The Literature Club accidentally orders an excess of copies for their Hyōka anthology book, and end up having to formulate a plan to sell their excess copies during the festival. Meanwhile, other clubs are experiencing minor thefts from a phantom thief, known only by the calling card he leaves behind: Jūmonji. The story is portrayed in episodes 12-17 of the anime.

Yonezawa's Kotenbu (Classic Literature Club) novel series began with Hyōka, the first novel, in 2001. The Credit Roll of the Fool (Gusha no Endroll) novel then followed in 2002, Kudryavka no Junban in 2005, Toomawari Suru Hiyoko in 2007, Futari no Kyori no Gaisan in 2010, and Imasara Tsubasa o Iwaretemo in November 2016. Penerbit Haru released the Hyōka novel in December 2017, followed by Credit Roll of the Fool earlier this year.

Kyoto Animation adapted some of the stories in the series into a 22-episode television anime series in 2012. The anime's character designs by Futoshi Nishiya served as the basis for the character designs in Task Ohna's manga, which launched in Kadokawa's Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine in January 2011. Kadokawa published the manga's 11th compiled book volume in October 2017.

A live-action film adaptation starring Kento Yamazaki and Alice Hirose opened in Japan in November 2017.
