Viz Media announced on Monday that it has licensed horror manga artist Junji Ito's manga adaptation of Osamu Dazai's classic novel No Longer Human (Ningen Shikkaku). The company plans to begin releasing the series this fall.
In addition, the 2019 Toronto Comic Arts Festival announced on Monday that Ito will attend this year's event from May 11-12 in Toronto, Canada. Ito will participate in an on-stage interview, live-drawing, and ticketed autograph sessions. He also drew the event's poster, pictured below.
Ito launched No Longer Human in Shogakukan's Big Comic Original magazine in May 2017 and ended the series last April. Shogakukan published the third compiled volume in July.
Ito's Uzumaki and Tomie manga have inspired live-action adaptations, and his GYO manga inspired an OVA. Viz Media has published these three titles, as well as Ito's Fragments of Horror, and Frankenstein: Junji Ito Story Collection in English. Viz will also publish Smashed: Junji Ito Story Collection this April.
ComicsOne has published his Flesh Colored Horror manga, Dark Horse Comics has published his Museum of Terror manga, and Kodansha Comics has published his Junji Ito's Cat Diary: Yon & Mu manga.
The Junji Ito "Collection" 2017 anime adapted some stories from the Itō Junji Kessaku-shū (Junji Ito Masterpiece Collection) and Fragments of Horror manga.
Ito will also attend Crunchyroll Expo on August 30-September 1.
