In the Aftermath Film With Mamoru Oshii's Angel's Egg Footage Gets BD Release in U.K.

Distributor Arrow Video announced on February 23 that it will release the film In the Aftermath on Blu-ray Disc in the United Kingdom on May 6. The release features a 2K restoration.

The 1987 film was Carl Colpaert's directorial debut. The film spliced footage from the 1985 anime film Angel's Egg, directed by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell), with new American live-action footage. Arrow Films describes the story:

[...] Roger Corman protégé Carl Colpaert (The Crew) made his directorial debut by combining repurposed excerpts from a foreign film – in this case, Mamoru Oshii's (Ghost in the Shell) spellbinding 1985 anime Angel's Egg – with new live action footage shot in America. The result is In The Aftermath, a haunting post-apocalyptic vision like no other.

In a radiation-soaked wasteland, two surviving soldiers, Frank and Goose, search for essential supplies amid the rubble. After a violent confrontation, Frank is haunted by visions of an angelic young girl holding a giant egg, herself a refugee from another world altogether. Could the egg be the key to saving both their worlds?

Arrow Video's release will offer a special video feature titled "Before the Aftermath: The Influence of Angel's Egg." The release will also include new interviews with producer Tom Dugan and star Tony Markes, a reversible cover sleeve illustrated by Corey Brickley, and a still and poster gallery. First pressings will include a collector's booklet with new writing on the film by film critic and author Jon Towlson.

The original Angel's Egg film has never been released in the West as is. Anchor Bay Entertainment announced in 2001 that it had acquired the DVD rights, but never released the film.
