posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
BD/DVD ships on August 23

The official website for the Saga of Tanya the Evil (Yōjo Senki) anime film revealed on April 26 that the film's limited edition Blu-ray Disc release will include a novel. Original novel author Carlo Zen is writing the novel and illustrator Shinobu Shinotsuki is providing the illustrations. The limited edition will also include a Digipak featuring an illustration by Yuji Hosogoe, a special outer case, a storyboard collection, a booklet, a pamphlet, and video extras. The limited edition release, along with standard Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases, will ship on August 23.

The film opened in Japan on February 8. The movie earned 100 million yen (about US$906,285) in its first five days, and then earned 200 million yen (about US$1.8 million) by February 23. The anime's 4DX screenings debuted in Japan on April 5. As of April 26, the film has earned 400 million yen (about US$3.58 million).

Crunchyroll will screen the film in more than 500 theaters in the United States on May 16 at 7:30 p.m. local time, and it describes the story:

The time is UC 1926. The Imperial Army's 203rd Air Mage Battalion led by Major Tanya Degurechaff has won the battle to the south against the Republic's stragglers. They expected to be given a vacation after returning victorious, but instead receive special orders from Staff HQ as soon as they get home. They are told that there were signs of a large-scale deployment near the Empire-Federation border.
Faced with the prospect of a new major enemy, the desperate Empire fans the flame of war.
Meanwhile, an international volunteer army spearheaded by the Commonwealth set foot in Federation territory. As they say, the enemy of an enemy is your friend. They suffer through misfortune purely out of national interest, and among them is a young girl.
She is Warrant Officer Mary Sue, and she takes up arms hoping to bring the Empire, who killed her father, to justice.

Most of the staff and cast returned from the earlier television anime.

The television anime premiered in January 2017. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired, and Funimation streamed an English dub.
