Yu Shimamura joins returning cast, staff in sequel to December 2018 Netflix anime

The official website for Studio Pierrot's Hero Mask original anime series announced on Tuesday that the anime will have a second season that will debut exclusively on Netflix worldwide on August 23. The site is streaming a promotional video for the new season, and also unveiled a new visual.

Hiroyasu Aoki (unit director for X-Men, No Game, No Life, 2011 Hunter × Hunter) is returning as director, scriptwriter, and series composition. Takahisa Katagiri (animation director for Blood-C, FLCL Progressive) is again designing the characters. Takashi Nakamura and Yuki Sonoda return as art directors, and Katsuya Yamada returns for art setting. The rest of the staff return as well, except for episode director and storyboarder Sōichi Shimada.

Yasuyuki Kase, Yūko Kaida, Junpei Morita, Kentarō Takano, Kōki Uchiyama, Yutaka Aoyama, Takayuki Sugō, Yutaka Nakano, Haruka Shibuya, Tomoyuki Shimura, Yūichi Karasuma, Yukiyo Fujii, and Tomoko Miyadera return from the first season cast. Yu Shimamura joins the cast as the character Tina Hurst.

The first season debuted on Netflix last December with 15 episodes. The anime centers on a string of horrific incidents that all revolve around a mysterious "mask." Detective James Blood works to chase down the truth of the incidents. The show's official English website describes the story as follows:

Now there's a mysterious Mask before James Blood, and the man behind it is one that shouldn't exist. What is the mystery surrounding this mask...?
So begins an action-packed crime story set in a beautiful city!
