Crunchyroll to Stream Food Wars! Season 4, Chihayafuru Season 3

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Both anime premiere in Japan in October

Crunchyroll confirmed on Wednesday that it will stream the Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Fourth Plate and Chihayafuru 3 anime series this fall.

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Fourth Plate (Shokugeki no Sōma: Shin no Sara), the fourth anime season based on Yūto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's manga, will premiere on both Tokyo MX and BS11 in Japan on October 11 at 24:30 (effectively October 12 at 12:30 a.m.).

Yoshitomo Yonetani is returning to direct the anime at J.C. Staff. Shogo Yasukawa is returning to oversee the series scripts, and Tomoyuki Shitaya is returning as character designer. nano.RIPE will return to perform the new show's ending theme song "Emblem."

The manga previously inspired three television anime series. The first anime season aired for 24 episodes from April to September 2015. Food Wars! The Second Plate, the second anime season, aired for 13-episodes starting in July. The third season, Food Wars! The Third Plate, premiered in October 2017, and the second half of the third season premiered in April 2018. Crunchyroll streamed all three series as they aired, and Sentai Filmworks has licensed all three series.

Chihayafuru 3, the third Chihayafuru anime season based on Yuki Suetsugu's manga, will premiere on NTV's "AnichU" programming block on October 22. The season is scheduled to air for two cours (two quarters of a year), for a total of 24 episodes.

The new season was initially slated to premiere in April, but was delayed to October.

Kenta Miyake (My Hero Academia's All Might) replaces Unshō Ishizuka as Dr. Harada, the mentor who teaches the traditional Japanese game of karuta to the main character Chihaya. Yoshino Ohtori replaces Toshiko Fujita as Taeko Miyauchi, the karuta club advisor at Chihaya's high school. Both Ishizuka and Fujita passed away last year.

Morio Asaka returns to direct the anime at Madhouse. 99RadioService, who performed the opening themes for both previous seasons, returns to perform the new opening song "COLORFUL." Band Harassment performs the ending theme song "Hitomebore" (Love at First Sight).

The first 25-episode television anime season ran from October 2011 to March 2012. The second season, Chihayafuru 2, premiered in January 2013 and also ran for 25 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed both seasons in several countries as they aired in Japan. Sentai Filmworks released both seasons with an English dub on home video. HIDIVE is also streaming the first season with Japanese subtitles and an English dub.
