Sony revealed on Wednesday in its financial results presentation for the fiscal year 2019 (April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020) that it shipped 2.8 million PlayStation 4 units during the quarter ending on September 30, bringing the console's worldwide total to 102.8 million units. The console is now the second highest-selling home video game console of all time behind the PlayStation 2, which has shipped 155 million units.
The 2.8 million units shipped is down from 3.9 million units shipped during the same period of the previous fiscal year. Sony lowered its 15 million unit forecast for total units for the fiscal year to 13.5 million units. The company also noted it had lower-than-expected software sales during the current fiscal year so far.
The PlayStation 4 console first launched in the U.S. and Canada in November 2013 and in Japan in February 2014.
Sony will release the PlayStation 5 console during the holiday season in 2020.
