Netflix India Adds Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon Anime on May 1

Inuyasha spin-off series premiered on October 3

Netflix India is listing the Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon (Han'yō no Yasha Hime) anime spinoff of Rumiko Takahashi's Inuyasha series for release on May 1. The company describes the anime:

The daughters of Sesshomaru and Inu Yasha travel between feudal Japan and the present day, searching for the memories of their past they've lost.

The anime premiered in Japan on October 3 and ran for 24 episodes. Hong Kong content distributor MediaLink Entertainment Limited's Ani-One YouTube channel streamed the anime in India as it aired in Japan.

Teruo Sato (Inuyasha episode director) directed the anime at Sunrise, and Katsuyuki Sumisawa was in charge of the series scripts after doing the same for Inuyasha and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. Takahashi herself was credited as the main character designer, while Yoshihito Hishinuma (Yakitate!! Japan, City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes) returned from Inuyasha to adapt her designs for animation. Kaoru Wada (3x3 Eyes, Battle Angel, The File of Young Kindaichi) was also back from Inuyasha to compose the music.

A sequel to the series titled Ni no Shō (Part II) is in production.

Takahashi launched the original manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1996, and ended it in 2008. Viz licensed and published all 56 volumes of the manga in English.

The 167-episode anime series based on the manga ran from 2000-2004. A 26-episode sequel anime titled InuYasha: The Final Act then ran from 2009-2010. The series has inspired four movies and a 30-minute anime short. Viz began releasing the anime on Blu-ray Disc last year.

The franchise has also recently inspired a smartphone game and a stage play.
