Anime Limited Apologises for Cinema Screenings of Wrong Evangelion Dub

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Screenings on Thursday were of the more recent dubs of Evangelion: Death (True)² and The End of Evangelion, not the classic dubs that were advertised

Anime Limited has Tweeted an apology relating to the UK cinema screenings of the films Evangelion: Death (True)² and The End of Evangelion, on Thursday November 11. From the statement:

"... Yesterday, there was an issue with our cinema screenings of Evangelion: Death (True)² and The End of Evangelion, where the incorrect version of the English dub was screened in venues.

"While all of our promotional material for the films promised screenings using the classic dub of these films, instead the more recent dub was screened instead.

"Upon investigation, it appears a mistake was made during the creation of the DCP (Digital Cinema Package) distributed to cinemas for the film, which caused the incorrect dub to be used for the creation of the package.

"... We can't apologise enough for the disappointment some of you have experienced as a result. We'll be revising our internal processes forthwith to prevent a repeat of this mistake in future.

"As of today (Friday), we've created updated DCP files and we're currently working on getting the corrected version of the film to cinemas for future screenings wherever possible."

Anime Limited added that the mistake does not affect the company's upcoming home releases of Neon Genesis Evangelion, which have been fully tested.

In replies under the statement, Anime Limited added that viewers unhappy with the Thursday screenings could speak to their local cinema in the first instance. If the cinema was unable to help, then viewers could contact Anime Limited through the company's contact form, "and we'll see what we can do."

Asked if there would be more screenings, Anime Limited said it was talking to the cinemas involved, but had no news yet, and that it would update people if more screenings were added.

The films are due to have more screenings on Sunday November 14 and on Thursday November 18, with the venues and booking links listed here. Asked if the upcoming Sunday screenings would have the correct dub, Anime Limited said, "We've sent updated files to all cinemas to update and ensure the correct version plays where possible - we'll update people if we hear of any issues or changes at individual venues."

Evangelion: Death (True)² is the updated 1998 edition of the 1997 compilation of the television series with some updated footage. The End of Evangelion film provided a new ending to the story from the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series in 1997.
