MVM Acquires Release The Spyce and Alice in Borderland

Both tittles will be released in July

MVM has Tweeted that it has acquired two licenses for July: Release the Spyce (pictured right) and Alice in Borderland (Imawa no Kuni no Alice). A Collectors Edition of Release the Spyce will be available as an "Early Bird" pre-order on Monday March 28 from MVM's Anime-on-line website.

The original anime series Release the Spyce was broadcast in 2018. The story begins with a lone high school girl named Momo, attending a high school in the city of Sorasaki. Unbeknownst to everyone, Momo is an agent who works for the private intelligence agency Tsukikage, that protects the city and its people. Under the tutelage of her senior Yuki, and her other friends, they keep the peace in the city.

The project is a collaboration between Yuruyuri manga creator Namori as original character designer and Yuki Yuna Is a Hero creator Takahiro for the original concept and series composition. The anime marks Akira Sato's directorial debut at Lay-duce. Satoshi Ishino is adapting Namori's characters for animation. SORASAKI.F is credited for the original work.

Yukari Anzai, Manami Numakura, Aya Suzaki, Akane Fujita, Aya Uchida, and Yuri Noguchi will perform the opening theme song "Supatto! Spy & Spice" and the ending theme song "Hide & Seek" as their respective characters, under the group name Tsukikage.

Alice in Borderland (Imawa no Kuni no Alice, pictured left) is a three-episode original video anime (OVA) of Haro Aso's manga. It should not be confused with the live-action Japanese series, based on the same manga, that was streamed on Netflix. Sentai Filmworks described the OVA story:

Be careful what you wish for. Antisocial misfit Ryohei Arisu wanted nothing more than to leave his mundane life behind, but a careless wish on a firework transports him to the post-apocalyptic Borderland, a sinister parallel reality where danger lurks around every corner and survival is not guaranteed. To live to fight another day, Ryohei and other unwilling contestants must win a series of deadly games, each more dangerous than the last — but returning home means putting not only his skills, but also Ryohei's humanity to the ultimate test.

Hideki Tachibana (Dragon Crisis!, H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~) directed the anime at SILVER LINK and CONNECT from scripts by Ryosuke Nakamura (Aiura, Mirage of Blaze). Tomoko Sudo (Welcome to THE SPACE SHOW, Wagnaria!! key animation) designed the characters, and Kazuya Iwai (Hatsukoi Limited, Bakuman.) was the director of photography. Masanori Tsuchiya was in charge of sound effects, and Hiroaki Tsutsumi (Meganebu!, Blue Spring Ride) composed the soundtrack.

Aso began serializing the Alice in Borderland (Imawa no Kuni no Alice) manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday S (formerly Shōnen Sunday Chō) magazine in 2010. The first season of a live-action series adaptation of the manga debuted on Netflix in 2020.
