Lonely Castle and Blue Giant Screenings at Cardiff on April 27

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Films will be shown subtitled at Chapter Arts Centre cinema

The Cardiff Animation Festival in April will include two anime screenings on Saturday April 27. Keiichi Hara's fantasy Lonely Castle in the Mirror (pictured right) will be screened at 3.50 p.m., and Yuzuru Tachikawa's jazz drama Blue Giant will be screened at 8.30 p.m. Both screenings will be in Japanese with subtitles, and the venue will be Cardiff's Chapter Arts Centre Cinema. Tickets can be booked individually, with the screenings are also covered by the festival pass.

Lonely Castle in the Mirror is described on the festival website:

"Junior high student Kokoro no longer feels comfortable at school, and spends her days within the confines of her room at home. Early one afternoon in May, her mirror suddenly begins to emit a bright light, and it sucks her inside. When she opens her eyes, she sees a castle like something out of a fairytale, and meets six other junior high students who are all total strangers."

Blue Giant (pictured left) is described on the website:

"Dai Miyamoto's life changes when he discovers jazz. He picks up a tenor saxophone and practices every day. After leaving his hometown Sendai, he pursues a music career in Tokyo with the help of his friend Shunji. One day, Dai plays passionately from the heart and convinces talented pianist Yukinori to start a band together. Along with Shunji, a beginner drummer, they form JASS. With each live performance, they get closer and closer to performing at So Blue, the most famous jazz club in Japan, in hopes of forever changing the world of jazz. Based on the manga by Shinichi Ishizuka, Blue Giant from Yuzuru Tachikawa is a moving ode to the power of jazz with original music by HIROMI."
