Despite never before receiving a U.S. home video release, AZUMI has already accumulated a sizeable fan base that continues to voice its enthusiasm through various websites, newsgroups, and message boards.

The AZUMI Two-Disc Collector's Edition arrives on Urban Vision's AsiaVision label at an SRP of $24.95. The 128 minute feature will be presented in Japanese and English language 5.1 surround with optional English subtitles. Disc Two special features include:

AZUMI takes place in 19th century war-torn feudal Japan when a master samurai takes on the task of raising ten orphans and training them to be assassins. Their single-minded mission: do the bloody work of the state by silencing troublesome warlords. But burdened with the cruel assignment that means killing friends and enemies alike, Azumi begins to question her faith in her master and her devotion to her country. Still, Azumi remains determined to single-handedly complete her bloodbath mission.

"AZUMI is a very personal title to this company, and a project we strongly believe will appeal to U.S. audiences," states Urban Vision Entertainment Executive Vice President Sandee Yamamoto.

AZUMI is based on the comics of Yū Koyama, which have sold more than 8 million copies, and stars popular Japanese singer/actress Aya Ueto. AZUMI was an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival. Its sequel Azumi 2: Death or Love is also scheduled to be released by AsiaVision.
