Industry Leaders Unite to Sponsor a Second Great Graphic Novel Library Giveaway in New Orleans

One Lucky Library Will Win a Graphic Novel Library Worth More than $20,000 at the American Library Association's Annual Conference

Industry leaders unite to sponsor a second Great Graphic Novel Library Giveaway in New Orleans

New York, NY May 19, 2011 – Building upon the huge success of the Great Graphic Novel Library Giveaway at Texas Library Association's Annual Conference in April, Brodart Company, Diamond Book Distributors and GraphicNovelReporter.com have once again partnered for the $20,000+ Great Graphic Novel Library Giveaway at the American Library Association's (ALA) Annual Conference, taking place in New Orleans, Louisiana from June 23–28, 2011.

The first $20,000 Great Graphic Novel Library Giveaway (at the Texas Library Associations' Annual Conference in April) was a huge success, with libraries from all over the state of Texas entering to win hundreds of graphic novels as well as library shelving and furniture. The winner was Weslaco Public Library, represented by librarian Eduardo Zepeda.

Based on the incredibly positive response, Brodart, Diamond and GraphicNovelReporter.com have now created a new contest for ALA that is open to libraries from all over the country. The prize features over 700 hand-selected graphic novels as well as fixtures and furniture. It will be displayed in Booth #1760 at ALA in a library setting with shelving, spinner racks, lounge seating, reading tables and chairs, accent tables and more. Eligible librarians can enter to win during ALA Exhibit Hours on Friday, June 24th through Sunday, June 26th, with the Grand Prize Drawing on Monday, June 27th.

In addition, the first 100 visitors to the Great Graphic Novel Library Giveaway booth on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will all receive gifts, and throughout the weekend there will be additional prizes.

The entire display, worth over $20,000, will be awarded to the winning library with a drawing that will take place at 9:30am on Monday, June 27th in the Great Graphic Novel Library Giveaway Booth #1760. The contest is open to public, school and academic librarians within the continental United States. ALA attendees must register in person at the Great Graphic Novel Library booth during the show. One hundred (100) semifinalists will be notified on Sunday evening and the winner must be present to accept the prize.

“Graphic novels belong in libraries because they should always be part of the whole reading mix. The format has come a long way over the years and can serve a multitude of purposes…from teaching tools to just fun reads. This prize will certainly provide a boost for any library's collection and circulation,” said Lauren Lee, Brodart's Senior Collection Development Librarian.

“Seeing the enthusiasm among the entrants in Texas and hearing librarians sharing their stories about the popularity of graphic novels in their libraries, we are excited to be partnering with Brodart and Diamond again, and look forward to awarding this prize to another deserving librarian,” added Carol Fitzgerald, founder of GraphicNovelReporter.com, a website from TheBookReportNetwork.com.

“Diamond is proud to be able to take part in this giveaway with Brodart and GraphicNovelReporter.com once again, not only to help spread the word about graphic novels, but to help a library in expanding their collection,” said Allan Greenberg, Sales Manager at Diamond Book Distributors.
