New Anime Series K Simulcasts Same-Time-As-Japan Across Asia on Animax

Singapore, 20 September 2012Animax, Asia's first channel specializing in anime programming, is set for its world premiere of the new anime TV series K! This October, K will broadcast across Asia at the same time that the series debuts in Japan, as Animax's sixth and latest simulcast anime series.

Premiering on 5 October 2012, airing on Fridays at 1.35am at the same time as Japan, first and exclusively on Animax, K is a highly anticipated new show debuting in Japan's fall anime season of 2012. For the convenience of viewers, they will also be able to catch numerous rebroadcasts over the weekend following the premiere of each episode.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Animax viewers in the region to catch K as soon as it airs in Japan. We know that fans love good new anime content and want to see it fresh. Hence, we have dedicated great efforts to realise a same-time-as-Japan simulcast once again. In doing so, we re-affirm Animax's commitment to offer audiences the very best in anime programming first,” said Ricky Ow, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Networks, Asia, Sony Pictures Television.

K is set in a futuristic Japan that took a different path in history where it is imagined to have isolated itself from the rest of the world, and become an exclusive, self-sustaining and advanced society. Amidst the intricately designed Japan in K, a war between Japan's seven lords – warriors with highly destructive special powers – is about to break out, and the protagonists, grey haired, ordinary high school student Isana Yashiro, his pony-tailed, highly skilled school rival-turned-best friend and bodyguard Yatogami Kurou, as well as a mysterious shape-shifting girl Neko, get embroiled in the explosive conflict.

K is a brand new, original anime project hailing from King Records' Starchild label, the creators of anime hits including Toradora!, Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father!, and Bodacious Space Pirates. K is created by the "GoRA Project" group which includes Gou Nakanishi, the producer of popular anime series such as Fafner and Asura Cryin', in collaboration with anime studio GoHands (Mardock Scramble films, Seitokai Yakuindomo). K is also currently being adapted and serialized into the K: Memory of Red manga series in Japan's ARIA magazine.

Viewers will love that K is being brought to life by a stellar, ‘A-list’ voice cast that includes Tomokazu Sugita (Gintama, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya), Takahiro Sakurai (Code Geass), Jun Fukuyama (Nurarihyon no Mago, xxxHOLiC), Mamoru Miyano (Death Note, Mobile Suit Gundam 00), Daisuke Ono (Black Butler), Daisuke Namikawa (Hunter x Hunter), and Yui Horie (Love Hina, Toradora!). Fans can also look out for the opening theme song ‘Kings’ sung by popular Japanese pop duo, angela, who has enjoyed great success with recent theme songs for anime including Seitokai Yakuindomo, as well as the first and second seasons of Asura Cryin'.

Get set for an action-packed original anime series that takes viewers to the edge of their seats in K broacasting across Asia at the same time as Japan first, only on Animax.
