Animayo International Animated Film Festival, Visual Efects and Videogames Celebrates This Year Its 10th Anniversary


ANIMAYO is the event, born in Gran Canaria that already has a position as one of the most important meetings for animation, visual effects and videogames internationally.

Many big professionals from the industry have been on the Animayo stage over the last ten years, making this festival a unique event where you can enjoy a wide variety of unusually artistic expression. Animayo enables an environment which encourages creativity, talent and professional development inside the animation film industry, as well as the visual effects and videogames fields

Under the unique vision of it's Director and producer, Damián Perea, Animayo is turning into a new concept of educational festival. The concept fuses audivisuals with a high level formative focus that many have started to imitate as it turns heads everywhere. Animayo opened its doors for the first time in 2006. From then on, the festival learnt to cross borders with its new format "Roaming Animayo" with more than 200 masterclasses, presentations, projections in places like:DreamWorks Animation (Los Ángeles) ,The Walt Disney Animation (Los Ángeles), American Film Institute (AFI), Pratt Institute de Nueva York, Cal Arts (Los Ángeles), Los Ángeles Film School (California), LAAF (Los Angeles Animation Festival), Universidad de Berlín, Universidad de Lisboa, Festmak (Uruguay), Viva Festival (Holanda), Universidad U-tad (Madrid), Escuela Esdip (Madrid), Animaizon (Zaragoza), Festival de Cine de Huesca, BAC (Barcelona) y CAAC (Sevilla), among others.

The figures during these years speak for themselves. Animayo has seen more than 35.000 students from primary, secondary and high schools enter its doors. 25.000 students from colleges, professional schools and universities. 297 teachers and professors.15.000 amateur adults, and 5.000 industry professionals. So much progress has been made in the teaching field that it has created its own "Animayo educative system". This is an initiative of didactic training for primary and secondary centres, high schools and colleges that makes use of audiovisual language, as it is currently one of the most important learning resources. The 2015 edition of Animayo Educative System will undoubtedly be one of the most important aspects of the roaming festival.

The success and recognition of the festival is granted on the one hand by the list of winners, with more than 2.000 works in competition. On the other hand, it's the honorary guests that each year coat the programme with their notoriety and talent. These leading figures have left their mark and their personal stamp at Animayo over these last 10 years, giving presentations, courses, workshops and masterclasses.

This year between 4 and 9 May among others guests we will count with:

Craig Miller screenwriter and publicist who has worked for Lucas film, Warner Bros., Universal Disney, Columbia, Henson Associates... Among his works we can find: Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Excalibur, Superman II, Altered States, The Dark Crystal, The Wicker Man, The Muppets Take Manhattan, and many more.

Hidetaka Yosumi, an animation genius. Yosumi has worked on Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XI and Kingdom Herts 2002 and in animated films such as Valiant, Bolt, Breaking Ralph and was responsible for the movement and flow of the famous hair of Rapunzel. He has also worked for The Little Prince and Mune as character supervisor. Besides he has been involved in Prep & Landing team from Wayne Lewis Manager nominated to the prestigious international awards of the Visual Effects Society – VES

Pablo Gimenez, Lead Technical Director at Double Negative VFX worked on the effects of "Mortadelo and Filemon. Mission: Save the Earth "by Miguel Bardem, who won in 2009 Goya® award for best special effects. He has worked as TDs effects in the film G.I. Joe. Among his biofilmography are great titles like Interstellar, Snow White and the Huntsman, Man of Steel, Transcendence, The Hunger Games, Skyfall, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Iron Man 2, Captain America. The First Avenger ...

Borja Montoro, an animator and character designer professional with over 25 years of industry experience, he has given into life characters like Tarzan and worked on films like Hercules, The Emperor's New Groove, The Jungle Book II, Asterix and the Vikings , The Aristocats II, The little match girl, or Turtle Twambo Ops, Don Bluth, or the Secret of Giacomo

Javier Fesser, screenwriter and film director and advertising, Goya® winner with the short film "El ritmillo (1995)" and with "Binta and the Great Idea" he achieved a nomination to the Oscars. The Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences of Spain awarded The Miracle of P. Tinto with a Goya® for best special effects and Fesser was nominated for New Director. His is the film's Big Adventure from Mortadelo and Filemon based on Francisco Ibanez comics. He directed the award-winning Camino which received six Goya® Awards and among other works he is also known because "Mortadelo and Filemon against Jimmy the jokey".

Max Howard, producer of some of the biggest hits of Disney's "The Lion King", "Pocahontas," "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast", former president of Warner Bros. Animation "The Iron Giant" and responsible for hits like "Who Framed Roger Rabbit ". Carlos Saldanha, co-founder of Blue Sky Studios and director of "Ice Age," "Robots" or "Rio". Claudio Biern Boyd, legendary producer in Spain, founder of BRB International, creator and executive producer of the series "Dogtanian and the Three Musketeers," "Around The World With Willy Fog" and "David the Gnome". Alexander Petrov, won an Oscar for the masterpiece "The Old Man and the Sea". Raúl García first European animator to get a job in Disney, worked on such important titles as "Tarzan," "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame". Tobías Mannewitz,concept artist, winner of two Emmy Awards for ‘Game of Thrones’. Jan Adamczyk a visual effects artist, has worked on productions like 'The Invention of Hugo', 'The Chronicles of Narnia', 'War Horse' and 'The Dark Knight'. Carlos Grangel, character designer in "Corpse Bride", has worked with great directors like Tim Burton, and with companies like Sony, DreamWorks and Disney. Bill Plympton, American freelance animator, with great recognition in the international arena with several Oscar nominations and awards at large international festivals. In 2006, he sponsored the first festival Animayo. Pascal Blais. Producer and Director, specializes in animation, advertising, film and television. Produced the short "The Old Man and the Sea" which won the Oscar in 2000. Alex Lemke, visual effects supervisor in "Hobbit", "Lord of the Rings" or "Captain America". Kevin Blank, vfx supervisor in ‘Lost’, ‘Alias’ or ‘Mission Impossible III’. Roger Kupelian, matte painting of ‘The Lord of the Rings’, ‘X Men’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Flags of our fathers’ among others. Eric Grenaudier from Stargate Studios, winner of an Emmy and and responsible for the visual effects in shows like "Heroes," "ER," "Grey's Anatomy" and "The Walking Dead". Ryan Woodward, storyboard artist in “Spiderman”, “Iron man” o “The Iron Giant”. James Muñoz, Goya winner for Best Sound in 2011 by "Buried" and sound designer for films like "Intruders", "Mort and Phil" or "The Miracle of P. Tinto". Daniel Peixe has participated in animation blockbusters like 'Planet 51', 'Tangled', 'Wreck-It Ralph', "Frozen", "Big Hero 6" and the Oscar-winning animated short film in 2013, 'Paperman'. Javier Recio, Goya Winner for Best Animated Short Film and nomination for an Academy Award for 'The Lady and the Reaper'. He has also worked in the latest blockbuster DreamWorks Animation 'The Rise of the Guardians'. Iker de los Mozos, Rigger at Disney, Ilion Studios, Kandor Graphics and The Mill; has worked on films like "Frozen" or "Justin and the Knights of Valour". Juan Solís, Developer characters in Disney, Blur Studios and Ilion Studios, has worked on projects like "Planet 51", "Frozen", "The Amazing Spiderman" and cinematic from the video game League of Legends.
