NEW YORK, NY (December 4, 2023) – Global superstar KENSHI YONEZU today releases a new music video for his song “SPINNING GLOBE” featuring never-before-seen footage from director Hayao Miyazaki's new film The Boy and the Heronwatch here. Making its debut ahead of the film's US theatrical debut this Friday, the music video was produced by Mr. Keiichi Itagaki, who has directed trailers for Studio Ghibli films since 1984's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Released in July, Kenshi Yonezu's “Spinning Globe” is the official theme song to The Boy and the Heron and the result of a four-year-long writing process undergone by Yonezu specifically for the new film – listen here.

Available in IMAX theaters now and in theatres nationwide this Friday, December 8 from GKIDS, The Boy and the Heron is a Studio Ghibli feature-length film with the original story and script written by director Hayao Miyazaki. With expectations soaring for Miyazaki's first new feature in 10 ten years since 2013's The Wind Rises, The Boy and the Heron was released in Japan on Friday, July 14 before screening across prestigious international film festivals. The film was selected as the festival opener at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, where it was the first-ever Japanese film and first-ever animated film to open the festival, and has since screened at both the New York Film Festival and the San Sebastian Film Festival, to name a few. Kenshi Yonezu has cited Hayao Miyazaki's work as a creative guidepost throughout his life and career – from seeing Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away in movie theaters as a young child to reading manga series Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind – Yonezu's longtime admiration for the Studio Ghibli co-founder now culminates into their first collaboration with “Spinning Globe.” Written and sung by Kenshi Yonezu, the theme song is the first taste of music from The Boy and the Heron, Miyazaki's first feature-length film in a decade. Based on an original story by Miyazaki, the film has garnered extensive buzz since its announcement, with everything from its story to cast and crew kept secret prior to the film's Japanese theatrical debut in July.

He has since gained wide-known recognition as a multi-talented creative, not only for his music but also for his album cover illustrations and music productions.

The music video to his smash hit, “Lemon,” is still the most-viewed music video in Japan. The song topped Billboard Japan's year-end charts for 2 consecutive years, leaving its mark on music history, nationally and internationally.
