Best Animated Feature - 'Suzume' Nominated For 2024 Golden Globe Awards

Makoto Shinkai's anime sensation makes film history with a Best Animated Picture nomination for the 81st annual Golden Globes Awards.

London, 14th December - Following the 2024 Golden Globes nomination announcement, Crunchyroll's ‘Suzume’ makes cinematic history as the first time ever two anime films have been nominated for the title of ‘Best Motion Picture - Animated’. It also marks writer/director Makoto Shinkai's first Golden Globe nod. The news showcases the meteoric rise of anime within mainstream culture and the ever-increasing respect and recognition for the medium.

Makoto Shinkai comments on the nomination: "We open the door as we leave in the morning, and close it when returning home. This very simple act represents the 'mundane' of daily life, nevertheless is a miraculously difficult state to maintain, as Suzume finds out.

I thank everyone on the production team, who in some way brought Suzume one step closer to reclaiming her own daily life, as well as the fans who came out to theaters to witness her journey. Likewise, my deepest gratitude goes to the Golden Globes, who discovered and considered our film for such a prestigious award."

The Golden Globes will be held in Beverly Hills on 7th January 2024 ahead of the BAFTAs and Oscar ceremonies.

Suzume’ is now available to stream on Crunchyroll.
